Octorara Area School District launches communications plan; set to hire school public relations chief | Community News
When: Octorara Area school board meeting, Oct. 13.
What happened: The board heard a presentation on a communications plan for the district prepared by the Chester County Intermediate Unit.
The gist: The following four key message areas were identified: Octorara is always student centered; they are not defined by a number; they are community connected from the start; and this is a small district with big opportunities.
Steps: A foldout mailer has been sent to 5,810 households in the district. It features a welcome message, fast facts, key messages and a QR code to connect to a new webpage that showcases the district message and has links to videos on social media. The district has received 215 views on YouTube as of Oct. 8.
What happens next: Superintendent Shawn Dutkiewicz said that the district is planning to hire a communications director.
Quotable: “We know we have a lot to do with our communications, and we really want to hit the great things we are doing in Octorara schools,” Dutkiewicz said.
Next meeting: The board will meet again Oct. 20.
